More than reducing FIFO and FFDRo, Aquaterra is improving soil and pollinator habitats with scalable and renewable agriculture.
Just 1-2 hectares of Nuseed Omega-3 Canola can produce as much DHA as 10,000 kg of wild fish. Including Aquaterra in feed formulations decreases FIFO and FFDRo while increasing the total omega-3 in the fillet. Aquaterra has the power to double the world’s supply of DHA on a small fraction current canola fields.
Aquaterra created a scalable supply of long-chain omega-3 nutrition with sophisticated plant-to-plant biotechnology. Microalgae are unicellular aquatic plants with the incredible ability to transform sunshine into long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA). Adding seven microalgae genes to canola provides the pathway to produce LC-PUFA including DHA and EPA in a sustainable, land-based crop.
Friend of the Sea is the aquaculture industry’s most trusted certifier of responsible seafood and omega-3 production. Aquaterra underwent an in-depth audit of agricultural and processing methods and earned Friend of the Sea certification – their first for a biotechnology product.
Read MoreAquaterra may have been created to reduce pressure on the ocean, but the positive impact on land is just as impressive. Farmers love canola for deep roots stocks that improve soil and the flowers that provide habitats and food for over 2,000 pollinators, like honeybees.
Watch VideoAquaterra is produced under the highest standards of traceability and responsible biotech stewardship. Verification requires detailed chain of custody records throughout the entire production, from soil to oil.
Salmon consumers are passionate about traceability and Nuseed provides confidence that Aquaterra Omega-3 meets high standards for quality.
Aquaterra is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to make positive social, environmental, and economic impacts. Aquaterra applies advanced plant genetics to preserve ocean resources, rebuild soil, improve farmer livelihoods, and nourish people.
